How to choose an AI detector for business content review

News, blogs, reports and emails need more than an AI score. Evaluate a detector without confusing marketing with evidence.

An editor reviewing a blog post needs to know whether its facts are supported and it meets the brief. An AI-writing signal cannot replace those checks. Human articles can contain invented facts, while permitted AI assistance does not automatically make content unsuitable.

Decide what action a result will support: a contributor conversation, closer editorial review, or a disclosure-policy check. Avoid asking one percentage to make the publishing decision.

Test the writing your team handles

Use permissioned examples with known provenance. Separate blogs, news-style material, reports and emails rather than reporting only a pooled average. Include human and AI examples, keeping source records outside the model input.

Reserve examples not used to configure the tool. Once you inspect a test and change your process because of its results, it is no longer untouched confirmation. Repeatedly adjusting until a familiar test passes can create a misleading impression.

The RAID benchmark illustrates why broader evaluation matters: detectors in that study were vulnerable to changed generation settings, unfamiliar models and attacks. It does not establish a winner for your documents.

Ask what the numbers measure

Ask vendors to define scores, highlights, false-positive rates and supported languages. Check the number of independent documents behind a claim and whether edited or mixed writing was included. Do not compare sentence-level false highlights with document-level false positives.

Turnitin describes a share of qualifying text; GPTZero describes document-classification probabilities. This comparison concerns definitions, not evidence that Certaffy outperforms either service.

Check practical requirements

  • Can reviewers inspect passages rather than only a headline number?
  • Are short-text and unsupported-input limitations explained?
  • Can your team verify PDF extraction?
  • Are retention, deletion, access and permitted data uses clear?
  • Are plan limits and subscription-management arrangements suitable?

Use a synthetic functional-test document before uploading confidential material. Follow organisational privacy and procurement requirements for real content.

Where Certaffy fits

Certaffy provides business and academic entry points, a public text check, and score-interpretation guidance. Those workflows are reasons to explore the product, not proof that it is the “best” detector. Confirm the functions available in your account against your requirements.

We have not established a shared independent benchmark showing Certaffy is more accurate than other detectors. A responsible comparison reports its conditions, includes mistakes, and allows “not enough evidence.” That is more useful than an unsupported perfect-accuracy promise.
